Notable Alumni | Woogaroo Swim Club

Poppy Wilson is a proud former Woogaroo swimmer who progressed from club swimming to representing Australia on the international stage.

A multiple Australian Age champion, Poppy won an outstanding six gold and two silver medals at the 2019 Australian Age Championships.

She made her Australian Dolphins debut at the 2023 World Para Swimming Championships, finishing sixth in the 400m Freestyle S10, before achieving her dream of representing Australia at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

On her Paralympic debut, Poppy reached the 100m Butterfly S10 final, finishing fifth in the world.

The Woogaroo Swim Club alumni represent a diverse group of individuals who have taken the discipline and spirit learned in our lanes and applied it to various fields of achievement. From Olympic podiums to local community leadership, our former members carry the club's values of perseverance, sportsmanship, and excellence wherever they go.

Jenny McMahon

Woogaroo’s Most Decorated Swimmer. Rising quickly through the club’s ranks, she became a standout performer at Brisbane, Queensland, and national levels, setting records and achieving results that remain unmatched. McMahon achieved Commonwealth Games

Gold and Silver medals (1990) in swimming, was five times Australian swimming representative, and had a top 15 world ranking for five consecutive years. She was also a triple World Surf lifesaving champion (2000) and an Ironman finisher (2014).

Known for her discipline, consistency, and humility, Jenny inspired generations of Woogaroo swimmers. Her dedication in training and leadership around the club left a lasting legacy, and she remains a defining figure in Woogaroo’s 50-year history.

Kayla Clarke

Kayla Clarke is one of Woogaroo Swimming Club’s most accomplished swimmers, rising through the club to compete internationally in the S14 classification and ultimately represent Australia at the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

Kayla enjoyed an outstanding period representing Woogaroo in 2009 and 2010. At the 2009 Queensland State Championships, she won five gold medals in her classification events. She followed this with an exceptional performance at the 2010 Australian Disability Age Group Nationals, winning eight gold and two silver medals.

Her performances earned her selection for Australia at the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands. There, Kayla won the silver medal in the S14 100m Backstroke.

Kayla continued her rise through international Para swimming before representing Australia at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Ava Hogan

A product of Woogaroo Swimming Club, Ava Hogan established herself as one of Australia’s leading young distance swimmers.

At the 2025 Australian Age Championships, Ava became Australian Champion in the 14 Years 1500m Freestyle, while also claiming silver in the 800m Freestyle and bronze medals in the 200m and 400m Freestyle.

In 2026, Ava achieved another major milestone when she was selected to represent Australia at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Canada, her first Australian team.
